Australia’s job vacancies rose by 2.7% in the three months to February 2026, accelerating from a revised 0.5% increase in the previous quarter. The latest growth was driven primarily by the construction sector, along with customer-facing industries such as retail trade and accommodation and food services. Private-sector vacancies climbed 3.2%, while public-sector vacancies edged down 0.7%. On an annual basis, however, public-sector vacancy growth remained stronger at 4.7%, compared with 3.6% in the private sector. “There were 337,900 job vacancies in February 2026, the highest level since November 2024,” said Sean Crick, head of labour statistics at the ABS.
