2026.03.3111:03:16UTC+00Portugal Industrial Output Falls Sharply Following Storm

Industrial production in Portugal fell 4.4% year-on-year in February 2026, the steepest decline since March 2025, after a 0.4% increase in January. The drop was largely driven by the impact of severe weather, particularly Storm Kristin, which disrupted activity in several regions of the country. Manufacturing output slumped 8.6% – the sharpest contraction since June 2020 – following a 2.7% decrease in January. Energy production declined 4.3%, its largest fall since 2020, reversing a 1.8% rise in the previous month. Growth in the mining sector also slowed markedly (10.8% vs 41.7%), while utilities output accelerated (20.4% vs 13.1%). On a monthly basis, overall industrial production edged down 0.2%.
