31.03.202614:00:00UTC+00U.S. Job Openings Edge Lower in February, Signaling Gradual Cooling in Labor Demand

Job openings in the United States slipped in February, pointing to a modest cooling in labor demand as the long-tight jobs market continues to normalize.

According to the latest JOLTS (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey) figures, U.S. job openings declined to 6.882 million in February 2026, down from 6.946 million recorded in January 2026. The data, updated on 31 March 2026, show only a slight pullback, suggesting employers are easing their hiring appetite but not sharply cutting back on labor needs.

The marginal decline keeps job openings at historically elevated levels, indicating that while the labor market may be past its peak tightness, it remains relatively robust. Investors and policymakers will be watching upcoming JOLTS releases closely for clearer signs of whether this gradual softening continues or stabilizes in the months ahead.
