Brunei’s economy expanded by 4.5% year-on-year in Q4 2025, a sharp acceleration from the marginal 0.03% increase in the previous quarter and the strongest pace of growth in five quarters. Industrial output jumped 8.3% (vs 0.3% in Q3), driven by higher oil and gas production, alongside faster growth in liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other petroleum and chemical products. Agricultural activity also strengthened, with growth rising to 5.7% (vs 1.8%), supported by increased output of vegetables, fruits and other crops, as well as forestry.

By contrast, the services sector remained subdued, contracting by 1.0% (vs -0.5% in Q3), as wholesale and retail trade, water transport, other transport services, finance, and business services all weakened.

From the expenditure perspective, private consumption rebounded, growing 4.4% after a 5.0% decline in the previous quarter. Net exports also contributed positively to growth, as exports accelerated (7.1% vs 4.6%) while imports continued to fall, albeit at a slower rate (-3.1% vs -21.6%). However, government consumption declined further (-9.2% vs -3.0%), and fixed investment also weakened (-1.4% vs -0.1%).

On a quarterly basis, GDP rose 10.8%, up sharply from 5.4% in Q3.
