Lithuania experienced a reduction in its trade deficit, which decreased to EUR 0.506 billion in December 2025 compared to EUR 0.632 billion in the same month of 2024. This improvement stemmed from a more significant increase in exports compared to imports. Export activities witnessed an 8% year-on-year surge, reaching EUR 2.856 billion, driven by notable growth in sectors such as fertilizers (44.2%), optics and related instruments (6.8%), and pharmaceutical products (5.8%). In contrast, imports rose by 2.6% year-on-year to EUR 3.361 billion, with significant contributions from electrical machinery and equipment (14%), land vehicles (10%), and machinery and mechanical equipment (7.5%).

Throughout this period, Lithuania saw a rise in exports to various countries, including Ukraine (16.6%), Denmark (11.5%), the United Kingdom (6.6%), Latvia (4.8%), and Poland (3.6%). Concurrently, imports also increased from several key partners, notably China (20.6%), Sweden (6.7%), Latvia (8.3%), and Germany (8.5%). Despite these positive changes in trade balances in December, the overall trade deficit for the entire year 2025 expanded to EUR 6.525 billion from EUR 4.598 billion previously.
