Finland posted a trade deficit of EUR 0.33 billion in April 2026, marginally narrower than the EUR 0.34 billion shortfall recorded in the same month a year earlier, according to preliminary estimates. Exports rose 19.8% year-on-year to EUR 7.19 billion, supported by higher sales to both EU countries (+7.6%) and non-EU markets (+39.2%). Among key destinations, shipments increased to Sweden (+20.6%), the United States (+79.6%), China (+21.5%), Norway (+34.9%), and Estonia (+23%).

Imports grew at a slightly slower pace, advancing 18.6% to EUR 7.51 billion. However, it should be noted that, as of January 2026, imports from EU countries are compiled under a new methodology. As a result, only aggregate import values are directly comparable with those for 2025, and Finnish Customs will not publish other annual change figures for imports in 2026.

Over the first four months of 2026, Finland’s trade deficit widened to EUR 1.39 billion, compared with EUR 1.02 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
