09.06.202606:12:32UTC+00German Imports Hit Highest Since November 2022

Germany’s imports rose 1.2% month-on-month to €122.1 billion in April 2026, reaching their highest level since November 2022. However, this represented a sharp slowdown from the downwardly revised 4.5% increase recorded in March. Imports from EU member states inched up 0.4%, as a 2.2% rise in purchases from euro-area countries more than offset a 3.4% decline in imports from non-euro-area EU members. At the same time, imports from non-EU countries grew 2.0%, supported by increased shipments from the United States (up 7.6%) and China (up 0.2%), despite a 4.7% fall in imports from the United Kingdom. Year-on-year, total imports were 6.3% higher, though this was slower than the 10.4% annual increase seen in March. Over the January–April period, Germany’s imports climbed 2.8% compared with the same period in 2025, to €468.4 billion, underscoring resilient domestic demand amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
